Tech Camps

Claymation/Animation, ages 9 - 13

Explore the world of object and clay animation. Using colorful modeling clay, create wild and funny, imaginary or real life characters with settings for your stories. You will be using "stop-action" animation and learn basic camera techniques and composition to help express your story visually.

The Earth and Beyond: Worlds in 3D, ages 10 - 15
Teacher: Selima Siddiqui
Become a geographer, explorer and scientist as you investigate your neighborhood, country and the world with GoogleEarth. Roam extreme landscapes on Earth, Mars and the Moon in 3D, all from your computer. Learn the latest GoogleEarth tools and tricks. Top it off by recording a movie tour of your favorite destinations. You will examine rock samples that correspond to geologic features viewed on Google Earth, make a map the old-fashioned way using hand drawn map features, plot latitude and longitude of features like volcanoes and create a map key.

Technology ‘rocks’ your everyday world from iPads to mobile computing and now, augmented reality. Your personal and academic world has moved to the digital cloud where you will be trained as a digital ninja. Explore media and social networking sites while creating a Google-centric style of digital domination. Learn to defend you and your parents against the latest Hacker tools and tricks. Blend art and entertainment with technology by exploring multimedia programs to create eye-and-ear-catching photos, audio, and videos. Map your location from space and ‘geocache’ your terrestrial coordinates around SOU's campus using a GPS (Global Positioning System) as your guide.

Techniques of Video Production, ages 12 – 16
Teacher: Brandon Givens
Lights, camera, action! Create your own short video using professional production techniques. Script, storyboard, shoot and edit your video in one week using MiniDV cameras and iMovie or Final Cut Pro.

Video Game Design, ages 11 - 14
Teacher: Robert Luaders
Explore the high-tech, fast moving world of video games, design concepts and possible vocation. From Atari's Pong to the soon to be released Natal Projection XBOX 360 you will canvas the various generes and gaming platforms. Learn game development tools like GameMaker to learn basic game design elements from game flow and sprite creation to backgrounds and sound all wrapped into basic programming exercises.
