Piano Teachers

Ronda Williams
$20/half hour

Ronda offers private piano lessons at her home studio in Ashland. Ronda is a kind and patient teacher who does a wonderful job of helping children gather the building blocks of learning how to play and read music.
Ronda has a BA in Music from Southern Oregon University and a BA degree in Fine Arts and Communications from Brigham Young University.

Ronda is also a licensed Kindermusik educator. In Kindermusik she teaches music and movement. These classes are broken up into 12 week sessions and are also taught in her studio at her home. Her Kindermusik classes are for infants and children up to age 7. Classes are broken up according to age. Each class involves parent-child interaction while singing, dancing, playing instruments, and listening attentively.

Tish McFadden
$25/half hour

Tish McFadden is a private music teacher in Ashland, Oregon who specializes in teaching young beginners (adults too) on guitar, piano and flute. Tish is very popular with the kids and sometimes hard to get in to see because of this. She encourages kids to come to her with the songs that inspire them so that she can teach those songs to the children.

Jennifer Schloming
$50/hour; $10 discount for students

Jennifer is the music director of the United Methodist Church of Ashland and adjunct faculty of the SOU Theater Department. She teaches piano and offers vocal coaching. Her specialty is musical theater, but she has a long career in opera and classical art song as well. Her degrees are from Stanford University and Reed College.

Lisa Truelove
$30/4 (45 min.) group lessons

Lisa offers Early Age Piano Classes (ages 4-8). These classes meet for 45 minutes once a week at her home in Ashland. There are typically 3-4 students per class and the cost is $30 per month. In addition to playing the piano, they play musical games and do musical theory activities.

Lisa has lived and taught in Ashland for the past 22 years. In addition, she has experience as a Montessori teacher.

Ann Bass
$25/half hour; $35/hour
Ann has been performing, teaching, and musical directing in the Rogue Valley since 1986 (including Oregon Cabaret Theatre, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and Rogue Music Theatre).

She teaches piano to beginning through late intermediate students, ages 5/6 and up. Her teaching style is energetic, supportive, and fun, and incorporates reading methods appropriate to the student's level and stylistic interests (classical, pop, folk).

Nova McCarthy
$25/half hour; $35/45 min.; $45/hour

Nova is an experienced music professional of over 20 years, recently returned to the Rogue Valley. She has taught music at private and public schools across the country, but has enjoyed teaching private lessons and early development music classes for the past 10 years in Southern and Northern California, as well as Southern Oregon. All of her classes are taught with a fun and creative approach to musical learning. All styles of piano music are taught with an approach from a classical base of understanding.

Recommended age is 7 and up.

Michele Alspach
$30/half hour; $40/45 min.; $50/hour

Michele offers piano lessons for students of all ages and levels. Her focus is on classical piano instruction. Michele received her bachelor's degree in Piano Performance from Chico State University in 1976 and has taught privately since then. She was trained in the Suzuki method at San Francisco State University in 1980. This training has influenced her teaching approach to be very positive and supportive, with an emphasis on providing students with a stimulating environment to find their way in piano study.

For kids, private lessons are weekly, with a once a month group lesson where students learn performance skills and also work on ensemble music. For adults, private lessons are also offered with a group gathering every two to three months. An active member of the Oregon Music Teachers' Association, Michele believes strongly in offering her students many opportunities to participate in local festivals, concerts and contests, as well as 3 studio recitals during the year. Lessons are offered year-round.

  1. My children have had the pleasure of taking Kindermusic classes and piano lessons from Rhonda. She is a wonderful teacher of both! She is patient, positive and conveys her love of music to any child she teaches. I highly recommend her for both.
