Summer Woodworking at Willow Wind, ages 5+

Vernon has been teaching woodworking privately and with the Ashland School
District for over 10 years. All projects are student driven and will have many
different options to choose from, or be able to create something of their choosing.
The focus will be on tool safety and learning basic woodworking skills that will
be applicable to many projects. All sessions have an optional two hour aftercare
camp that can be signed up for in addition to the woodworking camp.
Session I: July 5 - 9, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Painting, ages 5 - 8

Develop your imagination and learn new skills as well!
This class will introduce your child to the basics of painting. We will touch on composition, perspective, basic color theory and color harmony. We will go on to apply this knowledge to both watercolor and acrylic painting projects. They will also learn different styles of painting and subject matter. Students will get individual attention to help achieve their personal goals.

Unleash your rambunctious monster or magical fairy! This camp will involve creative projects that bring out the magic and fun inside you. Some of our creative adventures will include creating your very own ugly doll, making fairy huts or monster dwellings, a self portrait of your inner fairy or monster and other magical creative adventures imagined by you.

Animal Artworks!, ages 6 – 8

Comic and Manga Illustration, ages 11 – 14

Color your world! Come use professional markers, watercolors, and colored pencils to learn new ways to color and shade your favorite characters. You will use your own designs and images, whether it’s Manga or other forms of cartooning, and learn ways to make them come alive.

Creative Sculpture in Clay, ages 13 - 18
Teacher: Wataru Sugiyama
Experience sculpting in clay as you create dynamic pieces of your own design. You will make beautiful coil dishes, portrait busts, creative masks, hands, garden ornamentation and more. You will learn the basic skills of manipulating clay under the guidance of a world renowned sculptor. Take home many beautiful creations that have been fired and glazed.

Leonardo’s Laboratory, ages 10 - 13
Teacher: Claudia Michelli
Learn how to make paint using ingredients and recipes from the 17th Century. Then use your pigments to create a masterpiece! You will assemble and identify elements used to make pigment and prepare them by grinding and heating them. Experience how the master painters worked 300 years ago!

Pulp Inspirations!, ages 9 - 13

Did you know that paper was invented 2,000 years ago? Get your hands on this ancient creative process. You will learn a variety of paper making methods and use your creativity to discover methods of your own. You’ll use plants, flowers and other ‘found’ materials and turn them into cards, bookmarks, wrapping paper and more.

Push your artistic mind to the fullest and come learn the many aspects of ceramic art! You will learn hand-building processes, wheel throwing on the pottery wheels, and glaze application. Your stoneware pieces will then be fired using a low-fire electric kiln.
